Higher Ground

  • “Higher Ground”
    • Being a better, more spiritual Christian
    • Going to heaven now
      • What is our attitude towards heaven?
      • Are we ready to go now?
      • Are we willing to do what is necessary to get there?
  • What is necessary to achieve heaven? IT REALLY COMES DOWN TO ATTITUDE.
    • We have to make our eternal goal our #1 objective now and not let anything prevent us from attaining it.
    • Do we have the attitude that our own interests are more important?
    • Or do we have the attitude that we will listen to what God says…
  • Constitution v. Bible
    • Strict Construction v. Judicial Activism
      • SC – Constitution means what it says. (“The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”)
      • Some courts, politicians, groups, etc. read things into Constitution, claim it is a living breathing document that grows and changes with the times.
        • “Right to Privacy” not specifically mentioned in Constitution, but courts have interpreted it as a fundamental right that protects everything from homeschooling to purchasing contraceptives to abortion.
      • We can debate things like the role of federal v. state govt. and rights we as individuals may have and how the Constitution limits/protects those things.
    • Regardless of your view on the Constitution, God doesn’t allow us to apply judicial activism to the Bible.
    • Constitution serves multiple functions—so does the Bible.
      • A proper attitude is necessary for all purposes.
      • We must apply biblical principles to all areas where it provides instructions.
  • To reach “heaven’s table land”—we must do it God’s way.
    • How did this guy get to the top of this mountain?
    • If God provides instruction about how to do something, He means it.
  • Bible speaks clearly; in many things, no room for interpretation—Examples…
  • Positive/Negative Preaching
    • Bible doesn’t shrink from touchy issues or telling us when we are WRONG.
    • Key is not focusing on a list of things not to do… But we must fill that void with positive things when we put away the old man of sin.
      • Many scriptures show this contrast.
    • If we are focused on practicing the “fruit of Spirit”… we won’t have time for sin.
  • Conclusion
