Behold, I Thought

  • “It Doesn’t Matter…”
  • 2 Kings 5:1-14
    • Naaman – Great & honorable man; Mighty man of valor; Lord had given Syria victory over Israel
      • BUT, death sentence of leprosy – Lk. 4:27
      • Either had faith or was ready to try anything under circumstances – v. 2-4
        • Believed Israelite slave girl
        • Showed humility to visit enemy’s prophet – v. 2; 2 Kgs. 6:8
      • Disrespected by Elisha – v. 10
        • Naaman traveled for miles
        • Didn’t even meet him
        • Dip in dirty Jordan
      • Behold, I thought
      • Reaction: Other rivers; Rage.
  • Reinforcing Scriptures
    • Prov. 3:5-6
    • Prov. 14:12 – There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
    • Is. 55:8-9 – “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
  • Application
    • How we are like Naaman
    • I thought God wants me to be happy…
    • Worship sounds better with instruments
    • I have plenty of time to obey
    • I only need to believe
    • I don’t think God would require…
      • It doesn’t matter! Do what He says.
    • Salvation (like Naaman’s cure) is a simple process—Requires just a perfect sacrifice and our obedience.
      • Don’t question it; just do it.
      • Baptism may not be glamorous, but that act of obedience saves us.
