Speaking the Truth in Love

A Priest of the Order of Melchizedek!

Introduction:  Tonight we want to study about the priesthood of Jesus. The Order of Melchizedek! We ask you to now open your Bibles and follow along with us in our study. If you have comments or questions during our program, please call us!

Genesis 14:15-20 – History of the meeting of Abram and the King of Salem and priest of God Most High, Melchizedek

Psalm 110:4 – First reference to the priesthood of Melchizedek

Hebrews 4:14-5:11 – Christ, the High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek

Hebrews 6:19-7:10 –Jesus is of the order of Melchizedek, who was king of righteousness and king of peace, without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, but made like the Son of God. Levites still in the loins of Abram paid tithes and tribute to Melchizedek, King of Salem and priest of the Most High God.

Hebrews 7:11-19 – Jesus of the tribe of Judah, but made of a priesthood superior to the Levitical Priesthood.

Hebrews 7:20-28 – A better covenant and a better priesthood, available to all!

1 Peter 2:4-10 – Peter describes the blessings of the priesthood of Jesus according to the order of Melchizedek. Priests are to be lively stones, offering up spiritual sacrifices, proclaiming the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light, and created in Christ for good works (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Revelation 1:4-6 – Today you can become a Christian and be a priest in this everlasting priesthood!

Summary:

•             The Order of Melchizedek Is Eternal

•             The Priesthood of Melchizedek is a higher order than the Levitical Priesthood

•             Jesus, of the tribe of Judah, is the High Priest of this superior and eternal priesthood

•             Followers of the High Priest Jesus can be a priest in this eternal priesthood

How about you? Are you a Christian tonight? Do you want to be a part of this sanctified and special priesthood? Repent of your sins and be baptized to wash them away. That is what the people did in Acts chapter 2 and it says the Lord added them to His church (Acts 2:36-47). Those early Christians became a part of wonderful and eternal priesthood. One that promises Jesus to Shepherd you in this life as your High Priest and one that promises eternal life one day in the presence of Jesus forever. We encourage you to consider this great invitation.
