Speaking the Truth in Love

Speaking the Truth in Love

Moses and The Christ

Introduction: As Christians we know that Jesus is our ultimate example of perfection. There are also many individuals in the scriptures that we can look to as examples of righteousness, and thus did many things in ways similar to Jesus. We are in the midst of a series of programs that compares some of these individuals to Jesus. Some of these people were similar because their lives emulated His life; others were similar because events that happened in their lives corresponded with events in His life. In all of these cases we can see the consistency of the Scriptures and of God's expectations for His followers. For this study we will begin by comparing the life of Moses to Jesus, The Christ.

• Both Spent their early years in Egypt: Moses (Exodus 1:1, 2:1-10); Jesus (Matthew 2:13-23)

• Both Were Endangered Early in Life: Moses (Exodus 1:22); Jesus (Matthew 2:16)

• Both were rejected by their own people: Moses (Ex. 2:13-14Acts 7:22-29); Jesus (John 1:9-11, 7:1-5)

• Both helped a woman at a well: Moses (Exodus 2:15-19); Jesus (John 4:22-30, 39-42)

• Both had missions confirmed by miracles: Moses (Ex. 14:30-31); Jesus (Matt. 11:1-6,John 15:24-25)

• Both were close to being stoned to death: Moses (Exodus 17:3-4); Jesus (John 8:56-59)

• Both were mediators and intercessors: Moses (Exodus 32:10-14, 30-33); Jesus (Ro. 8:34-39, Heb. 7:23-251 Timothy 2:5-6)

• Both fasted 40 days and nights: Moses (Exodus 34:27-28); Jesus (Matthew 4:1-2)

• Both chose 12 men and appointed 70: Moses (Deut. 1:23Num. 11:15); Jesus (Mark 3:14Luke 10:1)

• Both initiated a covenant through blood: Moses & Jesus (Hebrews 9:18-28, 10:10)

• Both had close relationships with God: Moses (Deut. 4:5-12); Jesus (John 17:5,Matthew 17:1-3)

• Both gave up nobility to be humble servants: Moses (Numbers 12:3Heb. 11:23-26); Jesus (Phil. 2:5-8)

• Both delivered a Law and Priesthood: Moses (Hebrews 7:11-16, 9:8-15, 10:1-4); Jesus (Galatians 3:23-25, 6:2, James 1:21-251 Peter 2:1-10)

Invite all to our assemblies and our gospel meeting November 3-6, 2013 (Sunday-Wednesday)

Closing: There are other similarities between Moses and Jesus that we did not have time to discuss this evening. However, from the ones we did have time for, it is clear to see why so much of the Bible discusses Moses in the likeness of Jesus. Notice Acts 3:22-26. Moses was a prophet and delivered the Old Testament law and the Levitical priesthood. These foreshadowed the New Testament Law and the everlasting priesthood that Jesus delivered for all. Do you want to be a priest in the church of Jesus Christ? Why not become a Christian today? You will need to humbly submit to the will of God like Moses did. Believe Jesus, confess that He is the Son of God, repent of your sins, and be baptized to wash them all away in His blood. The reward is a meaningful life on earth and eternal life in Heaven! Why are you waiting?

For November we plan to rerun this program. Our next live program is planned for Monday, December 2, on “Speaking The Truth In Love” when we study “The Passover Lamb and The Christ“. We hope to see you then.
