The attitude of Cornelius

Acts 10:1-11:18

• From the beginning led and influenced his household (How are you leaders of households doing? How are you households doing in following?) (10:1-2)
• Did all he could even though it may not have been the most obvious - was not seeking the spotlight - was recognized by God - there are lots of things to do in the kingdom but not all are in the spotlight (10:3-4).
• When told what to do, he did not say, haven't I done enough? He went through some challenges to get Peter to come. Folks were willing to sacrifice (10:5-8).
• When told what to do he did not question why or question the method. And he did not try to challenge how things were done - but obeyed (10:5-8). No grumbling or complaining, always a positive attitude.
• Cornelius had a good reputation with his household, his servants, and his soldiers – They diligently obeyed him; a good example for all (10:17-23).
• When Peter came, he wanted all the people he could to gather to hear the message - How are we doing with inviting folks to our Bible studies or to listen to sermons or watch the TV program, etc. (10:24-27)?
• Knew the words were from God, precious, to be taken in, and to put into action (Do we look at God's word as precious, to be embraced in our lives and followed?) (10:28-33).
• Took in all the words from Peter (10:34-43).
• Attitudes of all were accepted by God - gift of tongues – astonished those who came with Peter (10:44-46).
• All obeyed willingly (10:47-48).
• The attitude of Cornelius and the Gentiles was very powerful to those in Jerusalem. This attitude helped open the door to the Gentiles who needed to come to Jesus (11:1-18).
• Words that save (10:6, 10:22, 10:32, 10:33, 10:36-37, 10:42, 10:44, 11:1, 11:14)! And those same words save today!

CLOSING

Cornelius can teach us how to have an attitude of love, honor, and respect for God. He also had a willingness to truly hear all of God’s Word, obey all of God’s Words, and share that Word with others! He never had a negative attitude and there is no record of any grumbling or complaining. How is your attitude toward God tonight? Let us all be like Cornelius.
