A GOD OF THE HILLS BUT NOT OF THE VALLEYS?

By David J. Riggs

Intro.
   A. Read 1 Kings 20:23-30b
   B. This idea of the Syrians - God was a God of the hills but not
of the valleys - was an insult to an omnipotent God.
      1. Thus, He allowed them to be defeated by a very small army.

I. SOME HAVE A SIMILAR VIEW OF GOD TODAY.
   A. "God cannot see at night."
      1. They often sin under the cover of darkness as though God
doesn't see well at night. 1 Thess. 5:7; Prov. 7:8-10
      2. Both night and day are alike to God. Psalm 139:12
   B. "God can't distinguish one sinner from the other."
      1. God loves poor helpless sinners so much that He will save
them even if they don't repent.
      2. Consider 2 Tim. 2:19.
   C. "God doesn't recognize the difference from one religion to the
      next." See John 4:24; Matt. 15:9; 2 John 9

Concl.
   A. We should never ascribe to God the weaknesses that men have.
      Psalm 50:22
   B. God is a God of both the hills and valleys.
   C. He is an omnipotent God who is to be honored and respected.
      Rev. 19:6; Hab. 2:20
