INTRODUCTION TO 1 SAMUEL

The book of 1 Samuel deals with Samuel, the last of the Judges, Saul the first of the kings, and David, the greatest of the kings.

1 Samuel marks a transition period from the Theocracy (governed by immediate divine guidance) to the Monarchy (governed by a single person).

Samuel is the last of the judges and is considered the first of the prophets though there were a few prophets before him. (Acts 3:24; 13:20).
