Romans 1 Questions

1. Research question: Where is Paul when he writes the book and about what year was it?

 

 

2. Why is it important that Jesus was of the seed of David?

 

 

3. Why is Romans 1:16-17 important to you?

 

 

4. Describe in detail one thing in creation that shows you that God is the Creator!

 

 

5. Romans 1:27 talks about things against nature. What does God expect to be natural?

 

 

6. Romans 1:28-32 describes all types of sins. Describe a sin that you struggle with the most and is one that you would be willing to discuss in class

 


Romans 2 Questions

Text: Romans 2 [Please read the text through and then answer these questions]

1. From verses 1-5 talk about judgment coming. Who is he talking about and how does that relate to the last part of chapter 1?

 

 

2. In verses 6-11 Paul discusses a judgment that is coming for all. Describe the faithful and unfaithful from this passage. Then describe the rewards of the faithful and the punishment of the unfaithful.

 

 

3. What law is being discussed in verses 12-16?

 

 

4. In verses 17-24 Jewish teachers are being discussed. What causes a teacher to be a hypocrite and what examples does Paul refer to here?

 

 

5. In verses 25-29 circumcision is discussed. What circumcision is now the only important one to God?

 

 

6. List one other passage that deals with unrighteous judging from the New Testament.

1. List advantages that the Jews had over the Gentiles at the time of the writing of the book of Romans.

3. Compare Romans 4:1-8 with James 2:14-26. Romans 4 seems to indicate we are not saved through works and James 2 seems to indicate we are saved through works. What do you think?

 

 

4. Why do you think it is important for Paul to show that Abraham was blessed before he and his household were circumcised as recorded in Genesis 17?

Romans 11 Questions

Text: Romans 11 [Please read the text through and then answer these questions]

1. What is Paul’s point in verses 1-5?

 

 

2. Verses 5-6 talk about grace without works. We know from James chapter 2 that faith without works is dead. What grace do you think Paul is talking about here?

 

 

3. What reaction is Paul hoping for in Israel in verses 7-15?

 

 

4. The technique of grafting a branch to a tree is being talked about in verses 16-24. Please make sure you understand what “grafting” is. If not please look it up in a dictionary. Then be ready to draw the parts that are represented by Jesus, the Israelites, and the Gentiles from these verses.

 

 

5. The “mystery” is mentioned in verse 25 with regard to the gospel being granted to the gentiles. Please find another verse in another book of the Bible that mentions this mystery.

 

6. If one is disobedient, what is available to the Jew or Gentile according to verses 26-32?

 

7. Paul praises God in verses 33-36 for His awesome wisdom and knowledge. What from this chapter illustrates the great wisdom and knowledge of God?

Romans 14 Questions

Text: Romans 14 [Please read the text through and then answer these questions]

1. What does “doubtful things” as mentioned in verse 1 mean?

 

2. Research verse 1 in 3 Bible translations that are different from the version you normally use. Then list what they have for “doubtful things” and be ready to discuss what you found in class.

 

3. What do you think verses 2-3 are talking about?

 

4. Verses 5-6 change subjects to deal with observing days. What group of people in NT times were really into the observance of days (also see Colossians 2:16-17)?

5. Verses 7-13 deal with judging our brethren about “doubtful things”. List at least two points from these verses that show why we should not do this to one another.

 

6. Why has Paul been convinced that there is nothing “unclean” in verse 14 (also see Acts 10:9-16, 28, Galatians 1:11-12)?

 

7. How could a Christian destroy another Christian with food? Think about it from the Jewish standpoint and then consider it from a Gentile who has come out of idolatry standpoint
(also see verse 15 and 1 Corinthians 8:9-13).

 

8. What is the priority in the Kingdom of God from verses 16-19 (also see James 3:13-18)?

 

9. Please read verses 20-23 and 1 Corinthians 10:23-33 and be ready to explain how eating or not eating meats could violate one’s conscience and why this is a sin.   

 

10. Some Bible manuscripts place Romans 16:25-27 right after Romans 14:23. Read these verses together and list why these passages seem to fit together.

 


Romans 15 Questions

1. How do we know if a brother or sister is the weaker one?

 

2. How do verses 2-3 teach us to please our neighbor?

 

3. What is the purpose of the old testament scriptures according to verse 4?

 

4. From verses 5-12 we see Paul teaching about accepting the Gentiles. With that in mind, what does he mean by being “likeminded”?
