Speaking the Truth in Love

Speaking the Truth in Love

Jesus The Lamb and The Shepherd

Psalm 23 is a Psalm of great comfort and hope. However tonight we want to first look at Psalm 22 and then look at Psalm 23.

Psalm 22 is of David and a two-fold Psalm.

1. The reality of what David is feeling and going through at the time

2. A prophecy about what our Lord and Savior would go through for all of the world

Read Psalm 22: verses 1-6, 7-11, 12-18, 19-24, 25-28, 29-31

As David shows us how he is feeling and all of the trials he went through, He gives a glimpse of what Jesus would endure for all men.

Hebrews 5:8 says of Jesus: “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.  And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,”

Hebrews 4:15-16: “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Because we have a High Priest who endured for us and was tempted more than any of us will be tempted, who would be better to be our shepherd through this life?

John 10:11: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”

John 10:26-28: “But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

Hebrews 13:20: “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

1 Peter 2:25: “For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”

With this background, let us read Psalm 23.

  • In severe trials, David knows there is nothing to fear! Notice verses 3 and 4.
  • This is also a very personal psalm of David
  • Why not make it your personal psalm?

Are you letting the Great Shepherd lead you today? The One who gave His life for His sheep

Have you become one of the sheep in His flock? To do that you must believe Him and in Him, confess that He is the Son of God, repent of your sins, and be baptized or immersed in water to wash away all your sins.

Revelation 7:13-17: “Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, "Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?" And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherdthem and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

The Lamb of God became the Great Shepherd for you! Let Him lead you wherever He says to go because He always knows what is best for His sheep and His way is the only way that leads to eternal life in Heaven! Why not become one of His disciples? That is what happened in Acts chapter 2. On that day 3,000 souls decided to obey the Great Shepherd and become one of His Flock.
