Print Version Moses
Sermon notes for Sunday, February 28, 2010
Notes written by Murray Wade

Introduction: Moses was a special man and a special prophet (Luke 16:27-31). He is given credit for writing down the first 5 books of the Old Testament. He was so influential that the Old Testament law of the Israelites was commonly referred to as the “Law of Moses” (Luke 24:44). I think a study of Moses and his life would be good for all of us.

Put Other’s First: When the Israelites made and worshipped the golden calf, Moses was willing to give his soul to save the people (Exodus 32:30-34).

Humble: The Bible says he was more humble than all the men on the earth (Numbers 12:3). After he was told he would not be allowed to enter the land of Canaan, instead of complaining he humbled himself and offered a final blessing for the children of Israel (Deuteronomy 32:48-33:29).

Jesus Was To Be A Prophet Like Moses: Prophesied in Deuteronomy 18:15-18 and repeated in Acts 3:19-26, a prophet like Moses would rise up: the seed Jesus.  Him you shall hear (Acts 7:37).

Close to God: Moses was close to God. They talked face to face as friends and Moses was allowed to be very close to God Himself (Exodus 33:11, 19-23, Numbers 12:4-8, Deuteronomy 34:1-12). I do not know of any one else where it says that God buried him.

Faith: The faith of Moses is acknowledged in Hebrews 11:23-29. He put His faith in God and suffered with the Israelites rather than being treated as a prince. He led the Israelites for 40 years by faith!

Wife and Family: Moses had a wife Zipporah and they had two sons named Gershom (lit. stranger there) and Eliezer (lit. my God is my help). Zipporah was not an Israelite but was of the land of Midian (i.e., Midianite or an Ethiopian). Zipporah was the daughter of a man who loved God (Jethro) and she loved God (Exodus 2:16-25, 4:18-26, 18:1-12, Numbers 12). Both Moses and Zipporah loved God, sought His will, and were accepted by Him!

With Jesus: On the mount of transfiguration, Moses with Elijah appeared in a vision with Jesus (Matthew 17:1-9). Obviously Moses is a great example of what Jesus expects of His children.

Close: Do you want to be like Moses? Then:

  • Humble Yourself To God
  • Put Your Faith In God
  • Desire To Be Close To God
  • Dedicate Your Life To God
  • Accept The Chastening Of God

If Moses were on the earth today, do you think he would become a Christian? Do you think that Moses would live obediently after he was baptized?
