Preached in Rogersville, Alabama

It is an honor that you have asked me to preach this weekend. I am always humbled to be able to preach the gospel. We have planned a number of lessons that may challenge what you have heard in the world about science and God. I hope that our time together will be faith building to those who are Christians and encouraging to those who need to become Christians based on what we can see in God’s word and in the world He created all around us.

[PP 1] When we look at the world around us we see many things built and designed by man. We know that these things were not the result of an accident or mere chance. The same is true in God’s creation. Tonight I would like to explore the question, “Accident or Design?”

[PP 2]

Genesis 1:1--2:4

Job 26:7-14, 38:4-7, 40:15-19

Psalm 19:1, 95:3-6

Proverbs 3:19, 8:22-31

Jeremiah 51:15

[PP 3-13]

  • Skyscraper vs. Sequoia
  • Fast Car vs. Cheetah & Pronghorn
  • F16 vs. Peregrine Falcon & American Kestrel
  • Chain Saw vs. Beaver
  • Helicopter vs. Ruby-throated & Rufous Hummingbird
  • 767 vs. Condor & fossil Condor of Rancho La Brea
  • House vs. Cliff Swallow Nest & Duck Nest
  • Submarine vs. Otter
  • Tanks vs. Armadillo
  • Car Transporter vs. Opossum or Grebe
  • Railroad Locomotive vs. Buffalo (Bison)

[PP 14] A space shuttle mission takes thousands of tasks working in unity for it to be successful.

Colonel Guy Gardner, Space Shuttle Astronaut

"Flying above the earth was just an awesome experience. The more we learn about our planet the more we find how truly unique it is. We have studied other planets. The more we see and learn the more we understand how the planet we call home is the most ideally suited for Life.“ (Isaiah 45:18, Ps. 145:4-7)

"Much more complex than the shuttle. It is hard to think that the earth, as complex as it is, was the result of mere chance. There must be a Master Creator! It is great comfort to know that I was not the result of chance, but rather that I have someone who made me, cares for me, and who I can go to with my cares and joys."

[PP 15-16]

  • Space Shuttle vs. Artic Tern

[PP 17] Accident or Design?

Acts 17:24

Romans 1:20

Hebrews 1:1-2

Revelation 4:11

[PP 18] Now it is your decision! Hebrews 11:1-3, 6

[PP 19] Do you believe in God or believe that all things are just an accident or mere chance?

To be a follower of Jesus, we must believe that God is the Creator and we must submit to His Will. Have you? Why not submit to God by having a faith that moves you to obedience? Repent and be baptized, so your sins can be washed away! (Acts 2:38)
