Print Version Rejoice When God Answers Prayers!
Sermon notes for Sunday, May 24, 2009
Notes written by Murray Wade

While reading in the book of Psalms recently, I came across two Psalms that deal with a subject that I think we all need to be reminded of on a regular basis. Do we rejoice when God answers our prayers? Are we thankful and grateful when God answers our prayers?

When we pray we should always acknowledge God our Almighty Father and be thankful for all that He does for us. We also pray for many things. We may be very good at remembering to pray to God when we need and want His help. Or when we pray that He might help a brother or neighbor who is in need. But when He answers prayers do we rejoice? Do we take the time to thank Him? Are we grateful and humbled by how God provides for us, takes care of us, and gives us what we need and ask Him for? Two Psalms (Psalm 28 and 30) of David relate to this idea. We will go ahead and read them now.

Psalm 28 – Notice verses 6-7

Psalm 30 – Notice verses 2, 7, 11-12

Many in the world today are not thankful to God (Romans 1:21). This is the opposite of how we should feel toward God. Notice Psalm 100 and Colossians 3:15-17.

We are always to be thankful to God. And we should rejoice and be thankful when He answers our prayers! Rejoice when He gets us through a tough time! Rejoice when he has made someone we pray for well. Rejoice when He gives us strength to endure trials (Matthew 5:10-12, Luke 6:22-23, 10:21)!

Notice two passages that connect prayer, thankfulness, and rejoicing!

Philippians 4:4-13

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

When God answers your prayers are you grateful to Him? Do you rejoice and give Him the Glory for the answered prayer? Some good things for us to think about and put into practice in our walk as Christians.

If you are not a child of God, the promises of prayer are not yours. Notice what Jesus says in Matthew 7:7-11 and what James says in James 5:16. A child of God and a righteous man are promised answers to their prayers. A great blessing Christians have is knowing their Father will listen to His children and He will give them what they need! If you are not a Christian this morning, why not believe in Jesus, confess that He is the Son of God, repent of your sins, and be baptized in water to wash away yours sins? Then you can leave this place knowing God will answer your prayers, many times in ways to wonderful to describe!

If we can help you now please come forward while we stand and sing!
