David and The Christ
Introduction: As Christians we know that Jesus is our ultimate example of perfection. There are also many individuals in the scriptures that we can look to as examples of righteousness, and thus did many things in ways similar to Jesus. We are in the midst of a series of programs that compares some of these individuals to Jesus. Some of these people were similar because their lives emulated His life; others were similar because events that happened in their lives corresponded with events in His life. In all of these cases we can see the consistency of the Scriptures and of God's expectations for His followers. For this study we want to compare David and The Christ!
SIMILARITIES BETWEEN DAVID AND THE CHRIST
• Both were from Bethlehem
David (1 Samuel 16:1, 4, 10-13): Jesus (Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:1, John 7:42)
• Both were from the lineage of Judah and Jesse
David (1 Samuel 17:12): Jesus (Matt. 1:1, 5-6, 20, 9:27, Luke 3:23, 31-34, Rev. 5:5)
• Both learned how to be Great Leaders from their experiences
David (1 Chronicles 13:10-12, chapter 15 & 16): Jesus (Heb. 2:17-18, 4:15, 5:8-10)
• Both were fearless facing insurmountable odds
David (1 Samuel 17:32-50): Jesus (Romans 5:18, Phil. 2:5-11. Heb. 9:26-27, 10:10)
• Both were loved by God the Father for their hearts
David (Acts 13:22): Jesus (Matthew 17:5, 2 Peter 1:16-17)
• Both submitted to God’s Will
David (Psalm 51): Jesus (Philippians 2:5-8)
• Both became Kings of God’s people
David (2 Samuel 5:1-5, Matt. 1:6): Jesus (John 18:33-38, 1 Tim. 6:13-16, Rev. 17:14)
• Only one became the perfect Savior and Spiritual King on His throne in Heaven!
Jesus (Luke 2:11, Acts 5:29-32, 13:22-23, Phil. 2:9-11, 2 Tim. 1:8-11, 1 John 4:14)

In Acts 2:29-42, the apostles demonstrate that Jesus is greater than the patriarch David. Those present realized that they needed to submit to the risen Savior and His Authority. They asked, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Peter gives them the answer. They needed to repent of their sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission (forgiveness) of their sins. You need to submit to the Savior of the World who is now reigning as King in Heaven. Obey Jesus today so that you can become a Christian. He is the only way to the Father and the only way to the salvation of your soul!
