What Must I Do To Be Saved? (Be Baptized with God's Baptism)

Baptism or immersion is taught throughout God's Word and is necessary to become a disciple of Christ. Tonight, let us look at the scriptures to be sure that the baptism we teach and practice is the one that the Lord teaches (Ephesians 4:4-6).

 

I. WHAT IS BAPTISM?

A. Immersion in water (Acts 8:38)

B. Spiritual and conscience cleansing (I Peter 3:18-22Hebrews 9:14)

C. Symbolic - Burial and death to sin and resurrection to Life (Romans 6:1-6)

D. Baptism puts one in contact with the cleansing blood of Christ (Matthew 26:28Acts 20:28,Ephesians 1:7)

 

II. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ONE IS BAPTIZED?

A. Baptized in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:18-20)

B. Sins are removed (Acts 22:16Colossians 2:11-12Revelation 1:5)

C. One puts on Christ (Galatians 3:26-27)

D. One is given the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)

E. The obedient are added to the Lord's Church or Body (Acts 2:47)

 

III. THE POWER OF GOD'S BAPTISM

A. Mark 16:16: Believe & Baptized > SAVED

B. Acts 2:38: Repent & Baptized > SAVED

C. 1 Peter 3:21: Answer a good conscience & Baptized > SAVED

D. Acts 22:16: Arise & Baptized > SINS WASHED AWAY

E. Colossians 2:11-12: Being buried in Baptism > RAISED

F. Romans 6:3-5: United in death in Baptism > WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE

G. Galatians 3:26-27: Through faith be Baptized > PUT ON CHRIST

A. Simon (Acts 8:13)

B. Ethiopian (Acts 8:38)

C. Household of Cornelius (Acts 10:48)

D. Household of Lydia (Acts 16:15)

E. Philippian Jailer (Acts 16:33)

V. GOD OFFERS SALVATION THROUGH OBEDIENCE (EXAMPLES)

A. Bronze Serpent (Numbers 21:8-9John 3:14-15)

B. Naaman (2 Kings 5:9-15Luke 4:27)

C. Jericho (Joshua 6:3-5, 20Hebrews 11:30)

D. Blind Man (John 9:6-11)

E. The Ark (Genesis 2:5-6, 6:14-17, Hebrews 11:7, 1 Peter 3:20-21)

F. Baptism (Mark 16:16)

Have you been baptized for the remission of your sins? To become a Christian one needs to hear the gospel, believe it and have faith in Jesus, confess that Jesus is the Son of God, repent of your sins, and then be baptized to wash away those sins.
